BBL Treatment For Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic, progressive condition that causes blushing or flushing and visible blood vessels on the central face including the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. Over 13 million Americans suffer from the condition. If left untreated, Rosacea tends to worsen over time.
For those who have been diagnosed with Rosacea, there is treatment available to help reduce the redness and flushing. BBL technology allows for treatment of rosacea at the source. By bypassing the skin’s surface, rosacea flare ups are kept to a minimum while therapeutic light pulses treat dilated blood vessels and the sources of redness. BBL therapy is capable of treating:
- Dilated blood vessels
- Persistent redness
- Thickening skin on nose and cheeks (also known as rhinophyma)
BroadBand Light (BBL) uses an advanced form of light energy to treat the flushing and visible blood vessels of rosacea. BBL works by shrinking the blood vessels that cause rosacea, which leads to a calmer appearance. After just one treatment, most patients will find significant improvement. With two treatments, redness can be decreased by 50%. Patients also reported reductions in flushing, itching, dry skin, burning, swelling, and sensitivity. Patients state that they have significantly improved their quality of life.
How many treatments are needed?
Most patients respond very well to 2-4 treatments. Each treatment is spaced by one month from the last. The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes and you can resume your daily activities immediately.
What is the treatment like? Is it painful?
BBL treatments are quick and virtually painless. The treatments consists of a pulse of light that may feel like a pinch similar to a snapping rubber band. Often it is the surprise of the pulses that is the most uncomfortable aspect of BBL treatments. If you do feel any discomfort, a topical numbing cream can be applied.
What preparations must I take?
There are no changes in activities, or medications that need to be stopped, before or after treatment. Sun light should be minimized before and after the procedure. BBL and laser treatments should not be performed on tanned skin.
Are there any side effects?
Makeup can be applied immediately after, and you can return to normal activities after receiving treatment. The most common side effect is redness and/or tenderness for two to five days after treatment. Age spots or freckles in the treated area may darken and flake away over the next few days. After a week or so, complexion should appear calmer and skin tone more even. Most patients need a series of BBL treatments to reach their desired results.
