Procedure Instructions: Pre & Post Care Guide

At MarElyse MediSpa, your safety and results are our top priorities. Following proper pre- and post-care instructions helps minimize risks, enhance comfort, and ensure the best outcomes. Please review the guidelines below for your specific treatment.

Facial Fillers – Pre & Post Carewoman getting injections

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, aspirin, ibuprofen, or other NSAIDs, as these increase bruising.

  • If you have a history of herpes, begin prescribed antiviral medication the day before and continue for one week after treatment.

After Your Appointment

  • Do not apply makeup or skincare products for 24 hours.

  • Avoid rubbing or massaging treated areas for 24 hours. No facials, lasers, or dental procedures for two weeks.

  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, or hot baths for 24 hours to reduce bruising risk.

  • No strenuous exercise or alcohol for 24 hours.

  • Minor headaches may be treated with Tylenol if needed.

  • Swelling, redness, or small bumps are normal and fade within hours to days.

  • Bruising may occur; contact us if it is significant.

  • Results peak in about two weeks and typically last 12–18 months.

  • Follow-up appointment recommended in two weeks.

Botox Injections – Aftercare

After Your Appointment

  • Exercise the treated muscles (frown, raise brows, squint) for the first hour.

  • Do not rub, massage, or apply pressure (including hats) for 24 hours.

  • Do not lie down for 4 hours after treatment.

  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, or hot baths for 24 hours.

  • No strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

  • Temporary bumps, redness, or bruising may occur and fade quickly; makeup may be applied the next day.

  • Headaches may be treated with Tylenol.

  • Results appear gradually within 3–7 days, with optimal effects at two weeks.

  • Botox typically lasts 3–4 months.

  • Follow-up appointment recommended in two weeks.

Laser Hair Reduction & Photofacials – Pre & Post Care

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid sun exposure for 4–6 weeks before and after treatment.

  • Stop waxing, plucking, or electrolysis for six weeks before treatment.

  • Discontinue tanning creams, tanning beds, or bronzers for at least four weeks before and after.

  • If you have a history of herpes, begin prescribed antiviral medication the day before and continue for one week after treatment.

After Your Appointment

  • Redness and swelling are common and may last from a few hours to several days. The skin may feel sunburned.

  • Treat skin gently—do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate.

  • Cleanse with gentle products such as Cetaphil; moisturize with CeraVe or similar creams.

  • Avoid salicylic acid and retinol products for two weeks.

  • MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) may naturally flake off over 3 days to 6 weeks—do not pick.

  • Apply Aloe Vera or ice packs as needed for comfort.

  • Hydrocortisone cream may be used for 3–5 days if irritation occurs.

  • Avoid heat exposure (saunas, steam, Jacuzzis, strenuous activity) for at least 24 hours.

  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and bronzers for at least four weeks to prevent pigmentation changes.
